The feed system on the SZLH series cassava pelletizer can be customized, and it supports screw conveyors, elevators, and other feeding methods. If your mixer outlet doesn’t match our inlet, we can supply a transition hopper or conveying equipment to bridge the gap. My raw material is fresh cassava. Do I need to dry it before pelletizing?

Yes. Fresh cassava usually has a moisture content around 60%, while the ideal moisture content for pelletizing is 12%-15%. Excess moisture causes:
Material slipping in the ring die, so it can’t be pressed into shape effectively;
Loose, fragile pellets and a low yield of good product;
Clogged ring die holes and more downtime for cleaning.
So fresh cassava needs dewatering and drying before pelletizing. A common process flow is:
Fresh cassava → washing and peeling → coarse crushing → dewatering → drying (to 12%-15% moisture content) → fine crushing → mixing → pelletizing
If you’re using cassava residue, it also needs drying first. Cassava residue starts with a high moisture content too, and usually needs pressing and dewatering before drying. If you already have drying equipment, just make sure the moisture content after drying is on target. If not, we can recommend a suitable drying setup based on your output needs.
Can your cassava pellet making machine also make cat litter pellets? Will that damage the equipment?

Yes, it can make cassava cat litter. The main raw materials for cassava cat litter are cassava starch or cassava residue, which are close in composition to feed pellets and use the same pelletizing principle. Cassava starch gelatinizes during conditioning and becomes highly sticky, so the pressed pellets have high density and good water absorption — a good fit for cat litter.
You don’t need to worry about equipment wear. The pelletizing process for cassava cat litter is basically the same as for feed, so it won’t cause extra damage. A few things to keep in mind:
Ring die hole size: cat litter pellets are generally 3-6 mm, similar to feed pellets.
Moisture content: also needs to stay at 12%-15%.
Additives: if you add binders, deodorizers, or other additives, make sure they mix evenly.
One note: if you need cat litter pellets with a very smooth surface and high sphericity, you may need to add a polishing and drying step after pelletizing. If you’re making a basic cat litter product, a single pellet machine handles the core pelletizing step.
